| Green Lawn's Pond |
Two features of Green Lawn, which have proven to be excellent bird watching sites, are the historic bridge and the stone-edged pond.
The pond at Green Lawn was originally a limestone quarry from which much of the early building material was garnered for cemetery roads. It has a center island (if the water is not too high) and the water comes from an underground aquifer.
The area around the pond is being kept in a natural state, augmented by some native plant materials, for the use and preservation of wildlife.
The bridge, now over a century old, was built in 1898 by the Fritz Rumer Cook Construction Company. The Decoration Day Parade photograph (shown below) was taken from on top of the bridge in 1910.
