The historic iron bridge, now over a century old, was built in 1898 by the Fritz, Rummer, Cook Construction Company. Built on a foundation of massive limestone blocks, the bridge showcases masterfully crafted ironworks and castings that are unlike anything in production today.
One can often see bird watchers moving around the areas surrounding the bridge, as it is a noted birding area. The view from the bridge to the ravine below is beautiful year-round and is continually being improved by the incorporation of native plants that provide both food and habitat for the many forms of wildlife that visit this area. The walking path below the bridge offers a place of particular quiet and serenity where both plants and birds can be enjoyed first hand.
The bridge deck and railings were extensively refurbished in 2003 and now offer walkways paved with brick and interspersed with granite memorial markers. For information on these, and other memorial options within the park, contact one of Green Lawns Family Service Advisors.
