First Saturday at Green Lawn
William Sullivant

First Saturday at Green Lawn is a program, free and open to the public, held the first Saturday of every month at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at Green Lawn Cemetery. This program, created by and presented by the Green Lawn Volunteers, honors people interred at Green Lawn who had an impact on life in central Ohio. Visits to the gravesite of those recognized are offered after the program. Although the programs are free, donations are welcome. All donations help the Volunteers in their efforts to educate the public about the rich history, heritage, art, architecture and arboreal beauty that is Green Lawn, the second-largest Cemetery in Ohio.

Program schedule:

June 7, 2008- "The Mix Family of Prairie Township"

Scott Caputo from the Columbus Metropolitan Library, will present a program on the Mix Family. Mr. Mix is a veteran from the Civil War. There is a street in Prairie Township named after the family as well. Please join us for this fascinating program.

July 5, 2008- "The Legacy of Nathan Kelly"

Nathan Kelly served as an architect during the construction of the Ohio Statehouse. Join the historian of the Capital Square Review and Advisory Board who will be dressed as Nathan Kelly and acquaint us with his life.

August 2, 2008- "Green Lawn’s 160 Year Anniversary"

A program Celebrating the Founders of Green Lawn Cemetery will be presented. The program will include information on the 39 Founders who signed and petitioned to create the Cemetery in July 1848. Some of the most prominent names in Columbus history will be involved.
