Those looking to give back to the community are welcome to volunteer at
Green Lawn Cemetery which offers a variety of tasks for the annual Join
Hands Day, usually the first Saturday in May.
Join Hands Day is a day of multigenerational volunteering created by the
Fraternal Congress of America. Green Lawn has offered volunteer
opportunities that day for several years, and its 2009 efforts were
recognized as one of the top 10 projects in the country.
Work that volunteers do on Join Hands Day may include picking up tree debris,
cutting sod away from military veterans' graves, painting a fence,
picking up trash and raking leaves. This work will ease the workload of
the grounds crew that handles as many as 600 burials a year.
Individuals and groups wishing to participate can contact the Green Lawn
Volunteer Coordinator at 614-878-4214 or 614-266-5218, or through e-mail at
sandlot17@juno.com.
Volunteer assignments are from 9 a.m. until noon when
a cookout is offered behind the Huntington Chapel.
High school students can earn community service hours by participating in
Join Hands Day.
Join Hands Day is part of the many activities at Green Lawn that day that
are free and open to the public.
